A Photofluorographic Mass Survey of the Stomach in the Rural Inhabitants of Jeonbug Province

Abstract
Photofluorographic mass survey of the stomach is known as a simple inexpensive and relatively accurate method of diagnosing gastric neoplasms.
A photofluorographic mass survey for the detection and enlightenment of early gastric neoplasm was performed to 893 rural inhabitants of Jeonbug, province during one month¢¥s period from July 1, 1975 to July 31, 1975. In addition to this survey, ~a mass examination of chest was also performed at the same time.
The cases which had positive findings of the stomach and duodenum on the miniature films were examined by standard upper gastrointestinal series. The results were analized as follows:
1. Of the 893 cases, 550 cases, or 61.1 per cent, were male and 343 cases,_ or 38.4 percent, were female and the sex ratio of this examinees v:is 1.6 : 1(M : F), and age distribution showed preponderance of 4th and 5th decades.
2. In 773 of the 893 photofluorographic studies, or 86.6 per cent, it was felt that the stomach was visualized sufficiently well to warrant a diagnostic interpretation and the remaining 120 cases, or 13.4 -per cent, were unsatisfactory.
3. In the breakdown of the satisfactory miniature studies of 773, 588 cases, or 76.1 per cent, were normal stomach, 185 cases, or 23.9 per cent:, were suspected gastric and duodenal diseases.
4. Of the 185 cases, 109 cases, or 14.1 per cent, were suspected gastric diseases and 130 cases, or 16.8 per cent, were suspected duodenal diseases. Someone was counted twice because he had gastric and duodenal diseases.
5. Of the 185 cases of suspected gastric and duodenal diseases, 69 cases, or 37.3 per cent, were examined by standard gastrointestinal series and the results were analized as follows ; 7 cass of gastric cancer, 19 cases of gastritis, 3 cases of gastric ulcer, 17 cases of duodenal ulcer, 4 cases of gastrectomy, 4 cases of chronic duodenal ulcer with pyloric stenosis, 1 case of hia.tal hernia, 1 case of radiopaque gallstone, and 23 cases of normal stomach.
6. Of the 893 photofluorographic Huss survey of the chest, which was simultaneously performed with gastric mass survey, 852 cases, or 95,4 per cent, were satisfactory for interpretation and 41 cases, or 4.6 per cent, were unsatisfactory. In 852 cases of satisfactory miniature films of chest, we could find out 42 cases, or 4.9 per cent, of pulmonary tuberculosis.
